Wyoming Window Tint Laws Explained: Legal VLT Limits for 2026

Wyoming tint myths that get drivers ticketed

Myth: SUVs and trucks get the limo treatment out back. Reality – Wyoming’s statute does not carve out a separate, darker rule for multipurpose vehicles the way some neighboring states do. The 28% floor reads across the side and rear windows regardless of body style, so a Tahoe and a sedan answer to the same back-glass number here.

Myth: a doctor’s note lets you black everything out. Reality – the medical provision is real, but it only drops the floor to 25%, not to zero, and the windshield still has to clear 70%. It is a small bump, not a blank check.

Myth: reflectivity does not matter if the VLT is legal. Reality – no window may exceed 20% luminous reflectance. A chrome or mirror-finish film can pass the darkness test and still be illegal on the reflectivity line alone.

Reflectivity, color, and the windshield strip

Wyoming caps luminous reflectance at 20% on every window, which rules out the mirrored and heavily metallic looks no matter how much light they let through. On the windshield, any film has to be nonreflective and cannot be red, yellow, or amber, and it lives only in that top band above the AS-1 line.
